Happy Pancake Day!

Yes indeedy, even the life-consuming Matlab programming couldn't keep me from enjoying a couple of pancakes from our resident uber-saucepan! The best of this has to be the ovular inspiration for my final filling of the evening...

guessed it yet? yup, that's right, Cadburys Cream Egg man!!

Just check out the ooze! SO unbelievably rich tho, I think your taste buds would revolt if you tried to eat two of these in one sitting.

So, naturally this brings us onto adddressing the question of 'how do you eat yours?' in a pancake, definately the best way I've found to eat a Cadburys cream egg!

Brighter way

Ceryn wrote a poem a while back about how many paths criss-cross our lives, each with their own promises, but the one God shows is the one we need to keep following – because it’s his, and is the best we could know. This poem’s very much along these lines. One thing I’ve been taught recently, is that God opens the door to the right way – and we need to learn to trust him in this, because he does know what’s best for us!

Brighter way

Plans and thoughts bombard my mind
of where my life will lead me to,
where I’ll live, what work I’ll find,
of who I’ll meet and what I’ll do

My plans, they seem to make such sense
what security I know I’d find!
In a job I, well I think I’d like
to work with people of my kind.

To make a name and make my way,
no need to pressure fam. or friends
I’d work my way and earn my life
adopt these normal ‘life’-born trends.

Yet then I see this life I have
lay once in ruins by my hand.
I’d tried my hardest, yet got nowhere
unable to understand.

And he paid that price that I would live,
he paved the way to know him more.
My tattered life he healed afresh
and stamped his mark upon my soul

Even now, I seem him call me;
one day I shall bow before
the mighty, loving, saving God
whose blood, my soul restored.

Your plan for me has always stood,
firm through my distress
your hand I know you’ll guide me by;
sure fact replaces my guess.

I may not wholly understand
the plans my Father has for me,
yet his plan for me stands sure
so my life I lay into his hands.

Burn my horizons Lord, today
I lay them at your feet
lead me down your brighter way
help me make my faith complete.

Be encouragers!!

I've said this in the previous post, but I've gotta say it again! Chatting to Jo (ex-Reading, now working in Spain for UCCF) I was just reminded how important it is that we're encouragers!! I read Acts 2v25 this morning in my quiet time:

David said about him: " 'I saw the Lord always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

It just struck me freshly, that when God is with us, we cannot be shaken!! As we're in the middle of events week now, but also in the time after and in our everyday lives, let's remember that when God's with us, when we're following him, nothing can shake us :)

We do indeed serve an awesome God :D

Events week & mime

Helloo all you faithful bloggers! It's events week, YEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! And I'm loving it, starting each day with prayer clusters, and just the overwhelming sense of knowing God's the one in charge, and that we're just called to be faithful in speaking the truth! Wow, we do indeed serve an amazing God!!

One of the ways I've been able to help, under the expert tutilidge of Ceryn, has been with the mimes we're doing just before the lunchtime talks to advertise the week's afternoon and evening talks. No doubt you've noticed the pic by now...

... yes, I KNOW I look like the lead singer of the band Kiss, but there you go ;) and it's been SO much fun so far - and it's only Tuesday!!

If there's one thing God really impressed on me in the approaching week to Hope 2006, it was that we need to be united in all we do: and one of the best things we can do individually, is to be encouragers!!

If there's one thing the enemy tries to derail us with as a whole, it's making us think we're in this on our own and that we can't do it. Well, here's a news flash - we're not doing it on our own! Hallelujah!!! We walk this week, under the power of the spirit, the love of God, and the Hope that is to come of a perfect life with God for all eternity!

Be an encourager, you were made to be one :) build eachother up, trust God (Prov3v5) and the enemy cannot derail you, because your focus is on God :)

Kids songs

Hey all, as you may or may not know, I am finally home for the weekend - huzzah! Having woken up at 7am, I went to my CD player to discover that I had previousely put all my Kids Prasie tapes by it! I put one on and the 4 song is called 'For God so loved the world'. The lyrics run as follows:

For God so loved the world, he gave his only son, that whoever believes in him, shall not die but have eternal life

'L' is for the love that he has for me
'I' am the reason he died on the tree
'F' is for forgiveness, and now I am free
'E' is to enjoy being in his company

The song is sung as a round, with 2 groups of kids singing the 2 strings alternately. As I listened to this song it just sturck me, how it states 4 simple truths that are vital that we remember, the most challenging of which for me, is 'E' - am I enjoying being in his company? We're called to serve God, with a joyful heart at all times - in the easy and tough, the happy and sad.

At the end of the day, what we need to seek is not mere happiness - because that's just a fleeting thing, but to seek true joy and contentment in God's goodness, because his plan for us is good!!

Chocolate cake!

Greetings people, I came home this evening to find that Julie's parents had left with her, a fantastic-looking chocolate maltesar cake!!

We're talking severe yum factor here! Chocolate cake, chocolate icing and maltesars over the entire surface!! And what's even better is that it was introduced to me by Julie as having been left for us by her mum and dad.

Game on! ;)

Fuzzy control

This made me laugh (well, inside. Would have looked weird in the lecture otherwise, hehe!), we're about to start part of one of my modules and it's called 'Introduction to fuzzy control'!!

Nooooow, this got me thinking (naturally, without looking at the notes, because that would spoil the fun) what could 'introduction to fuzzy control mean? My current theories are below:
  • A leash for a teddy-bear
  • An method of automatically trimming your beard
  • That random frizz-control hair mousse stuff (yeh, you can probably guess I don't use anything like that! My hair's far to sily-smooth as it is :P)
In order for me to get the most out of this module, I need you all to give me ideas as to what fuzzy control actually is!! Who knows, I might even post the real meaning of fuzzy control next week when I've done the lecure ;)

Raging sea

It's one of those crazy, yet amaaaaazing things when God just grabs you when you're listening and inspires you to write something. In this case it was a song of all things! Even more amazing is that 4 days later (ie this evening!) this song now has chords.

Well, enough of my jibber-jabber, here's the song; the lyrics of which I wrote during the closing worship of last Thursday's CU main meeting, and the music I've written this evening.

Thanks God :)

'Raging sea'

v1
D Em7
Lord I know that I am wandering
D/F# Gmaj7
I cannot see the way to go
D Em7
This path I made has got me nowhere
D/F# Gmaj7 Asus4->A
And where I need is to be home

Ch
Em7 D/F# G
When the storm around is raging
Em7 Bm7 Asus4
And the waves grow high on every side
Em7 D/F# G
Lift up your hands to me my child
Gmaj7 Asus4 D
And trust in me to be your guide

v2
D Em7
I find it hard to follow you
D/F# Gmaj7
I worry where it is I’m led
D Em7
These paths I see are strange to me
D/F# Gmaj7 Asus4->A
And I don’t know what lies ahead

Chorus

V3
D Em7
Lord I’m weak when I grow weary,
D/F# Gmaj7
And have not strength to walk your way
D Em7
I see you beckon me to follow you
D/F# Gmaj7 Asus4->A
But yet I struggle to obey

Chorus

Bridge
Bb Eb C
For though you find your feet are sinking
Bb Eb C
Reach out your hand and take my side
Bb Eb C
Take my lead and you shall notice
Bb Eb G
You stand above the rising tide

Totally amazing, my friend Issy gave her life to God this evening!!! I'm beyond cloud nine, currently on about cloud 10 or 11. God is SO good, I just can't contain this, hence this post!

I'm so not gonna be able to sleep tonight ;)

Technology at its best

Right, first I must explain a few points about my average Friday - it involves 2 hours of labs (implying it scheduled never only takes 2 hours!) and that this week I was using a computer that's older than me ;)

OK, on we go... yes, as I was saying in the title, technology at its best - and yes, this is a real beauty! The computer I was doing my Part 3 University labs on was an Amstrad (before the invention of the hard-drive. Yup, this puppy ran off 2 '5 1/4" ' discs!) which is very much rivalling me as the oldest fossil in the surrounding area.

But yes, on with the 'at its best'. Actually following the lab sheet was the 'fun' bit (where fun involves the activity finding the nearest wall and introducing your head to it at high speed, as an agreeable alternative) which took us 1.5 hours of our 2 hour lab!

Oooh but it gets better. No, it really does. We discovered that a certain function, which we needed to use, caused the program to crash. Repetedly. It also crashed when the lab supervisor came along. Repetedly.

The cream of the entire afternoon came when we rebooted the machine, repetedly, and it gave the following error:

'Please fit new batteries'

This caused me to laugh with a mixture of despair and nervous laughter for a good couple of minutes. It just goes to show that technology, despite being a pain at times, can still bring a smile to your lips in its most pants hour!

All I can say, is Praise God for patience: because he really does give it in abundance when you need it :)

You hear me

This poem spawns from a song by MercyMe, whose lyrics run as follows:

'What can we say to describe just a glimpse of your glory. How can our words portray but a thread of your majesty. But still we praise out saviour. In Spirit and in truth. For we cannot say enough about you.'

It's true that we can never praise the whole of God's glory, or even the most part. Sometimes our praise seems paultry to ourselves, but God seeks that praise and accepts it gratefully - because he loves us.

You hear me

I know my praise is little
And nowhere near your worth
But yet I thank you Lord, my God
That you accept it without mirth

You could just see it as it is
So small and not the whole
But yet you look right back at me
And smile into my soul.

My plaintive cry you could forget,
For who am I to call on you?
But this sinner’s call you treasure dear
For I belong to you

My broken heart you could ignore,
When I lift it up to you
But instead you ‘drop all else’, right there
And draw me near to you

I know the God I serve is love
And ‘tho I can’t express
The wholly glorious nature there
His love I will attest

My mind is small, I do admit
And there is more to him than I can see.
But one thing I can’t praise enough:
Is my great saviour’s love for me.

Dude, my chair & caught on camera!

You'd think, wouldn't you, that a chair made before the days of Ikea and the age of flat-pack, would be a sturdy beautiful-looking thing - immune to even my gentle touch? Little did I know, that this quality piece of furniture would then proceed to lose a leg, just by me picking it up!

Honestly, I don't know... I mean, I could have sat on that and all! So yeh, what can I say, clearly this chair has seen its day. But sadly that day has passed without informing me when it was hanging around. Just as well I only use it to stand on then, eh?! ;)

While downloading these pics tho, I stumbled across a pic I took when Cat wasn't expecting it!. Hehe, oooh... but such an evil look!

I suppose I deserve it for the 'cream incident' tho :P hehe...
